Shang Shung
Khyung Lung is located in Ngari Prefecture in of the Tibetan Autonomous Region (T.A.R.), which is in the south-west part of China. Ngari prefecture is in the extreme west part of T.A.R. With a small deviation it is in between two centers of pilgrims and tourist interest: Mountain Kailash - considered the sacred mountain by Buddhists, Bonpos, Jainas and Hindus - and the historical sites of Tholing and Tsaparang. This area is one of the most poor areas of Tibet as well.

Kyung Lung was once part of the flourishing Shang Shung Kingdom, which disappeared in the 7th century A.D. Its wall and caves structures were later occasionally inhabited by some Buddhist yogic practitioners, nevertheless most of them have been exposed without conservation to the unavoidable action of time and erosion. The whole area of Ngari contains many precious archeological sites which are slowly falling into forgetness.
Chögyal Namkhai Norbu discovered in his decades-long research into Tibetan history that this real was the true cradle of Tibetan culture.
