“Day of the Open Doors”
in Ye Sel Ling and the Shang Shung Institute Austria
On 16th of April 2010 Ye Sel Ling, the Ling of the Dzogchen Community Austria in collaboration with the Shang Shung Institute invited to the “Day of the Open Doors”.
About 50 people visited our beautiful and large Gompa and the rooms of the Shang Shung Institute.
In his initial talk Oliver Leick, the director of the Shang Shung Institute Austria, thanked the major and the local community for all their support. He also emphasized on the regional and international importance of Ye Sel Ling, the first Buddhist centre in East Styria, and of the Shang Shung Institute, the only cultural institution for the preservation of Tibetan culture in Styria, for the local community.
Mr. Erich Prem, the major of the community, congratulated in his talk the team of the Shang Shung Institute and of Ye Sel Ling for all their achievements and spoke about the importance of opening ones mind towards different cultures.
The highlight of this afternoon was an introduction of Buddhism given by Michael Aldrian, the official teacher for Buddhist religion in schools for Styria. Michael is also student of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and member of the Dzogchen Community.
Besides guests from the nearer and closer neighbourhood several special guests of honour could be welcomed and made this event to something unforgettable: the major and the catholic priest of the local community, the director of the main bank, the former director of the Harrer-museum in Huettenberg, who came all the way from Carinthia just for that event, the editor of the local news paper, and the chairman of the local youth-group.
All visitors enjoyed the offered snacks, followed curiously the PPP of the Shang Shung Institute, and listened to the talks with keen interest.
At the end of the talks there manifested a huge and brilliant rainbow just in front of the Gompa.
The “Day of the Open Door” was a very successful event and everybody returned home happily and relaxed.
